The December meeting of the HDI Pittsburgh Local Chapter 2002-2003 session was held on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at The Best Western Parkway Center Hotel in Greentree, Pennsylvania.

 

Special Meeting:  2002 Pittsburgh Help Desk Analyst of the Year Award Ceremony

 

On Thursday, December 5, 2002, the Local Pittsburgh Chapter of the Help Desk Institute held it's first annual Pittsburgh Help Desk Analyst of the Year Ceremony.  Congratulations to Colleen Kazee from D. N. American, Inc., on being named the 2002 Pittsburgh Help Desk Analyst of the Year.   Colleen was selected from a list of 12 nominees.  The 12 nominees were: Nathan Campbell, Marconi Communications; Ken Eisel, Affiliated Computer Services; Dolores Heagy, Carnegie Mellon University; Muhannad Hamdan, D.N. American, Inc.; Heath Kipp, Giant Eagle, Inc.; Colleen Kazee, D.N. American, Inc.;Kevin Matan, Stargate Industries, LLC.; Kent McClure, Bayer Corporation; Jamie Pagone, Mellon Financial; Bernadette Sivak, Giant Eagle Inc.; Margaret Schmitt, eiNetwork; and Janet Scuro, Allegheny Energy.  The list of nominees was then narrowed to 5 finalists, including Mahannad Hamdan, Nathan Campbell, Heath Kipp, Dolores Heagy, Colleen Kazee. 

Thanks to our panel of judges, including John Bennett, Manager, NAFTA IS ServiceDesk, Bayer Corporation; Thad Kaczkowski, Director, Enterprise Technical Assistance and Support, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield; Richard Kincaid, Manager, Client Support/Help Desk, Lord Corporation; Bernie Murano, Manager, Help Center, Giant Eagle; Jim Smith, Manager, Workbench Client Support Center, Mellon Financial; and Richard Woodruff, Manager IT Support Services, Marconi Communications.  These individuals dedicated their time to judge and score all of the candidates.

Other Items

Kathy Blair, President of the Pittsburgh HDI Chapter, announce the renaming of the Pittsburgh Local HDI Chapter will be delayed until the January 9, 2003 meeting.

 

Kathy also announced that time is running out on the $300 savings and free pre-conference workshop for HDI Members at the HDI National Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 17-20, 2003.  The deadline for this entire savings package is December 15, 2002.

Next Meeting

The Pittsburgh HDI Local Chapter's next meeting will be on January 9, 2003, at the Best Western Hotel in Greentree, Pa.  Lars Hohmann, from M-Tech Mercury Information Technology, will speak on "Improving Efficiency and Lowering Cost through Password Management"
