Post-1: Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity Planning for Busy IT Managers

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Eight years after September 11, 2001, Disaster Recovery/ Business Continuity Planning remains a neglected practice in many IT organizations—especially the in the small-medium sized business or organization. In large businesses and organizations, it is routine to find a staff of 1 to 5 FTE’s that do nothing but DR/BCP work; in the SMB market, however, these tasks are usually just another series of items on an already crowded to-do list of an already overworked IT or support manager. This session will provide busy IT and support center managers with the basic information they need to make DR/BCP easier to practice in their organizations.

Key Takeaways
You will learn:

  • Specifics of the two most popular DR/BCP frameworks: National Fire Protection Association 1600 (NFPA 1600 2007) and British Standard 25999-2:2007 (BS 25999).
  • The elements of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and how to conduct one
  • How to write a model Disaster Recovery/Business
  • Continuity Plan using an example of a fictional company
  • How to create an action plan for developing a DR/BCP plan and a set of templates to assist you in doing so
You will leave this session able to write a first draft of an effective disaster recovery plan for your organization.
