It is the ability to influence and motivate others, and provide the tools and environment that allow others to make the best contribution towards the attainment of goals. A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. They might not set out to be a leader, but they become one by the quality of their actions and the integrity of their intent.

The HDI Manager of the Year Award acknowledges and honors a service and support manager who has excelled at supporting any or all IT services within their organization. Through this award program, HDI seeks to recognize prominent professionals who most clearly demonstrate the ability to serve and advance information technology within their industry. The HDI Manager of the Year Award winner is announced each year at the HDI Annual Conference & Expo.

Nominations for the award presented at HDI 2015 must be submitted by October 31, 2014.

2014 HDI Manager of the Year Award Winner

Todd Neffenger, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

Todd Neffenger manages the Help Desk and Data Center Operations team at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Nearly 19,000 employees are supported by his team. Todd’s team includes an operations supervisor and 30 staff who handle more than 13,000 calls each month.  As the manager of IT’s “front door,” Todd works closely with nearly 400 staff and managers in his department.

Todd began at Ohio States’ Wexner Medical Center in the fall of 2000 as a senior systems developer/engineer on the Server Team in IT. He has a strong background in telephony, networking, server, desktop, technical writing and engineering sales. He was promoted to manager of Server Support and introduced PMI project management to his team. In 2002 he transitioned to Desktop Support management. Todd served two years on HDI’s Health Care Providers Forum and helped his department achieve HDI’s Support Center Certification. 

He accepted the role of Help Desk and Data Center Operations manager, spring of 2011. His focus on the customer, process improvement, technical training, team morale and empowerment, brought a new level of consistent statistical excellence to the team and department. His team recently developed the first virtual Help Desk Kiosk and Help Desk website at the Medical Center, and leads an effort to build a comprehensive asset lifecycle management process.
 
Todd earned his technical degree from DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix and an associate degree in General Studies from Lorain County Community College.
